Guest Preacher: the Ven. Ronald Harrison

Joining us for Compline

The Venerable Ronald Harrison will be our guest preacher for our Compline services (7pm, soup served at 6pm) during Holy Week (April 14, 15, & 16)

Ronald Harrison retired as Executive Archdeacon for this Diocese on December 31, 2012.  Bishop Michael Ingham appointed him to this role effective April 1, 2001.  Ron was born in Vancouver and baptized at Holy Trinity, Vancouver, before his family moved to the Dunbar-Kerrisdale area.  They joined St. Mary's in 1952.  Until leaving for seminary in Sept. 1968 (the Episcopal Theological School, Cambridge, Mass.) Ron spent a great deal of time in this parish, singing in the junior and senior choirs, choir librarian, Christian Education Committee under Garth Walker, cubs, Sunday School, and was the first "youth" under 21 to be elected to the Church Committee (Parish Council). He was confirmed at St. Mary's in 1961 by Bishop Godfrey Gower and ordained Deacon at the same locale by Bishop David Somerville on July 18, 1971. While an undergrad at UBC, Ron was trained and commissioned in the Royal Canadian Naval Reserve. He served a brief curacy at St. Paul's, Cleveland Hts., where he was ordained priest by Bishop John Burt on April 16, 1972.  He then served as Assistant Priest at St. Philip's, Dunbar, Sept. 1, 1972-Sept. 1, 1976; then from 1976 to 1988 as Rector of St. Augustine's, Marpole, only to return to St. Philip's as Rector Feb. 1, 1988, until March 31, 2001. Ron and Sandy were married by Andrew Pike at St. Augustine's on May 2, 1987. St. Mary's was generous in sponsoring Ron in seminary, and Bishop Gower helped with expenses for some months of study in the Middle East in 1970.
