Choir Appreciation Sunday

Mass of the Creoles with Guest Percussionist

In 1963, the Second Vatican Council authorized the use of the vernacular within the celebration of the mass. It was at this time that composer Ariel Ramirez created his widely popular Misa Criolla. Mass of the Creoles is based on a Spanish translation of the original Latin texts for the mass. Each movement of this compact setting utilizes South American folk material, most particularly popular dance rhythms of the Argentine region. Within the context of our 10am service on June 16th, we will present 3 of the 5 movements of the work, namely the Sanctus, Agnus Dei and the Gloria. We are delighted to include the musical gifts of percussionist Eduardo Lucastegui in our presentation of this fun and festive work.
