Why am I a member of St. Mary’s Chancel Guild? I guess I have been involved in some of the work of a Chancel Guild since I used to watch my Mother iron purificators and my Father’s surplices. I started ironing purificators when I was about 12 as part of the Girl’s Auxiliary at our Church in Comox. Many years later, I thought I should be doing more for the Church. By chance, one Sunday, after the service, there was a “Fair” in the Gym of St. Mary’s where people talked about the various activities that the people of the Church could participate in. At the Chancel Guild stall, Ida Lundall spoke to me and encouraged me to become a member. I did and was so happy that it was something I could take part in besides the Choir. I discovered that I enjoyed arranging flowers and getting a better idea of what happens during a communion service. Working with a group of people with the same interests has been a great joy in my life. — Judith Parkes
