The Journey of Holy Week: a Labyrinth Service

  • St. Mary's Kerrisdale 2490 West 37th Avenue Vancouver, BC, V6M 1P5 Canada (map)

Saturday, April 12th, 8pm

This Sunday, we enter the most important week of the year in the life of the Christian Church – Holy Week. It is the week when we remember the events of the last few days of Jesus’s life in this world. The events we “re-member” together in the worship of this week can seem hard to face. They ‘hold up to the light’ the ways we, like all humans, have failings and shortcomings. But they also allow us to see that our brokenness is never the end! And that God is with us, holding us, and ultimately bringing us through it to new life.

As an introduction to Holy Week, on Saturday at 8pm we are offering a simple, reflective, candlelight worship service: “The Journey of Holy Week”. We will gather in the gym so we can incorporate our beautiful labyrinth into the service as part of the spiritual experience of ‘journeying’ with Jesus. Come and join us for this simple, gentle worship, which will allow you to explore the ‘journey’ starting with the naïve enthusiasm of the Palm Sunday parade and ending with a joyful labyrinth walk - ringing handbells as we journey to the centre with God at our side. This worship is suitable for youth as well as adults, and everyone is welcome. Walking the labyrinth will be optional, so you can still fully participate if that is something you can’t do (or don’t want to do). Talk to or email Roberta for more information (rfraser@stmaryskerrisdale.ca).
