Music Ministry
The music ministry at St Mary’s aims to provide spiritual nourishment through the God-given gift of music. Throughout our heritage as Christian people, music has played a fundamental role in worship and in being part of our outreach to others. While grounded in the wealth of great choral and organ compositions of the past, the music we offer also embraces works by living composers and of other Christian traditions.

A variety of choirs provide leadership in music-making. The 35-voice adult choir offers choral music for all our major festivals and special liturgical events. The singers also sing at the Sunday morning services: the 9:15am choir focuses on congregational leadership, using the music of Taize, Iona and other communities; the 11:15am choir leads the traditional Anglican repertoire of Eucharist settings, anthems and motets from the plainchant of the Middle Ages to contemporary works.

St Mary’s Cherubs’ Choir (ages 3-5) and Junior Choir (ages 6-12) also meet regularly, and present their musical offerings at special services. The Handbell Choir offers preludes and postludes, as well as doing outreach to nearby seniors’ homes.

The organ is a 3 manual 1964 Casavant with an older console, 1955. It is used for all three Sunday morning services as well as special services and occasional recitals.

Young Adults Ministry (YAM)
YAM is an inclusive group open to all, wherever you may be on your spiritual journey, where we are committed to helping one another understand matters of faith and spirituality. We seek to build relationships in an informal, fun, supportive, and challenging setting. We welcome all seekers after truth as we explore together how the Christian tradition can enrich our lives. If you have tough questions, we want to engage them without pre-determining the answer. Whether you are a Christian seeking to grow in your faith, or someone learning about Jesus for the first time, we would be glad to meet you! YAM meets every Wednesday at 7:00 pm, sometimes at St. Mary’s and sometimes at other locations. It is aimed at those who have left high school up to 20- and 30-somethings, though all are welcome. We alternate between social activities and discussion nights. For more information and details about our upcoming meetings, contact David Taylor (dtaylor@stmaryskerrisdale.ca).
