“The Still, Small Voice: Meditating Through Lent”: Not Offered this Year

Lenten Taizé Service

March 7, 20107:30 pmto8:30 pm

Lent is the time of year when we pause and reflect. The contemplative nature of a Taize-style form of worship is the perfect way to take some time for meditation. The music is repetitive, the candles and icons give focus, and to top it off there are two periods of silence. Our Lenten service features Christina Zaenker on cello, Neil Burnett on celtic harp and flute (as well as recorder and penny whistle), Rudi Krause on violin and Glen Mitchell on piano. Come and join us for an hour Sunday March 7 at 7:30 pm.

Financial Vestry

March 8, 20107:30 pmto9:30 pm

Held in the Parish Hall on Monday, March 8 at 7:30pm with guest speaker retired Archbishop Douglas Hambidge. Refreshments at 7:00 p.m. All parishioners are encouraged to attend.

March 30, 20107:30 pmto9:30 pm

Kevin Dixon will be offering a series of four classes on Tuesday evenings in March for any adults who would like to receive the sacrament of baptism or confirmation. These classes will also be a good refresher for anyone who feels they need a spiritual-pick-me-up! Participants will be encouraged to participate in stimulating discussion enhanced by some excellent video and other visual resources. By the end of the series, participants may also feel a deeper sense of belonging and purpose in their spiritual lives. If you’d like to enroll, please contact Sheila in the parish office at secretary@stmaryskerrisdale.ca by March 5. Classes will be held at the church on March 9, 16, 23 & 30 from 7:30-9:00 p.m.

Palm Cross-making

March 21, 201010:15 amto11:15 am

After the 9:15 service. Join your parish family in the gymnasium after the 9:15 service for coffee, fellowship and palm cross-making. This is a perfect activity for the whole family. Once you get the hang of it, it’s great fun! Come and make the crosses that will be blessed and then distributed to St. Mary’s parishioners on Palm Sunday. For more information, please speak to Jane Taylor or Erin Davis.

Holy Week Taizé Service

The service hour follows the events of Holy Week beginning with the exuberant Hosanna of Palm Sunday, through Maundy Thursday-the Last Supper, footwashing, the garden of Gethsemane and the crucifixion all through the meditative music from Taize, France. This is a very powerful service and lasts one hour. There will three readings and three periods of silence. Our musicians will be Glen Mitchell on piano, Rudi Krause on violin, Christina Zaenker on cello and Neil Burnett on flute (and whatever else he decides to bring-celtic harp, recorder and penny whistle). We hope you can join us. Check out www.taize.fr to find out more about Taize. There is even samples of music.
